In Philadelphia solar, the tracking system includes a frame on which nine photovoltaic panels with a total power of 2.16Kwp are mounted. The frame would have to move so that it could face the sun as it travels across the sky during the day.
The frame is driven by 80W DC motor that turns on and off in response to the movement of the sun. The selection of the motor is based on its supply voltage, speed (rev/min), and gear ratio.
The gear ratio can decrease the motion ratio even further. All these selections are based on the criteria of producing enough torque to move the heavy photovoltaic panels. The movement of the motor is controlled by a microcontroller that turns the motor on and off depending on the time during the day.
