Philadelphia Solar achieves Commercial Operation Date for the First Utility Scale Storage project in MENA Region with Capacity of 23MWp/12.6 MWh.

Philadelphia Solar achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for Al Badiya second phase expansion project which is considered the first utility scale solar power plant combined with energy storage system in the MENA region.

Al Badiya second phase includes an expansion of 11 MWp, this expansion consists of approximately 34,320 of(320 Wp each) & Tracking system which is locally made by Philadelphia Solar, and a 12.6 MWh Lithium Ion energy storage system, the total size of the storage power plant combined with the first phase is 23 MWp, the new power plant’s purpose is to enhance the grid by power peak shaving and power shifting to increase the stability of the grid and support the grid at peak load hours, additionally it will also enhance the availability of energy during the daytime hours.

Al Badiya power generation station is a specialized power generation company, solely owned by Philadelphia Solar. The company was established on the 25th of November, 2013, with an area of 450,000 m2 and a startup capital of 22.5 millions USD, and total current investment of 42 millions USD. Al Badiya currently owns 23 MWp/12.6 MWh power plant located in Al-Mafraq, Jordan, and it is considered the largest power storage plant in the Middle East and the region. Al Badiya first phase has been operating since 22 October, 2015. The plant consists of 48,000 Poly Crystalline panels (250 Wp each) and Magnelis steel mounting structures (Model: PS4-H-Fixed) which were all made locally by Philadelphia Solar. Al Badiya considered as the largest and first PPA power storage plant in the Middle East and the region, and the first operated project in the first round.

The COD ceremony was held today at al Badiya power station in Al Mafraq, Jordan, in the presence of EMRC Chief Commissioner Eng. Farouq Hiyari, IDECO’s General Manager Eng. Ahmad Thainat, Chairman of Philadelphia Solar Mr. Abd Al Rahman Shehadeh and a number of the sector leaders.
